Animacel was founded in 2011 as a spin-out company of the University of Ljubljana with the aim of marketing stem cells to treat animals, especially dogs and horses.
Stem cell therapy is a new and very promising procedure world-wide that enables effective treatment and alleviation of problems in a relatively short time and at an affordable cost. It is intended for the treatment of cartilage wear, hip dysplasia, joint inflammation, and injuries and inflammation of tendons and circuits.
Slovenian researchers independently developed the method of innovative treatment of stem cells in animals. In 2011, Gregor Majdič and Katerina Čeh received the Rector's Award for the best innovation at the University of Ljubljana and the first prize for the best innovation in the public sector in Slovenia at the 4th International Conference on Technology Transfer.
In 2012, Animacel was the finalist for Slovenian Startup of the Year award!
