An innovative solution of the Slovenian team HiFlyers, the LeanIn application, which encourages viewers to actively watch the ski race, impressed the international jury the most and earned first place in the virtual sports hackathon Winter Sports Hackathon, which took place on June 8 and 9 and co-organized by the world-famous company Swiss Timing.
A virtual hackathon to increase the involvement of ski enthusiasts
The University of Trento and Hype Foundation, in collaboration with the world’s leading benchmark Swiss Timing and the EBU, have organized a virtual winter sports hackathon with the theme of skiing. The hackathon started on Tuesday, June 8 and lasted for 36 hours. Competitors had to experiment with new approaches, analyze ski data and come up with a key solution on how to increase fan engagement. At the end of the hackathon, each of the teams had to present their solution with the help of a presentation and videos. The teams were very creative and showed in various ways how to increase fan engagement in ski races.
The winners are the Slovenian team HiFlyers
The competition was attended by teams from as many as five continents, and among them was the Slovenian team HiFlyers, which comes from the company Priot. The team convinced the international jury and won first place. Despite the time limit, the four-member team managed to come up with a winning solution that encourages spectators under the age of 25 to more actively follow the ski race. The Hiflyers team consists of Blaž, Primož, Grega and Žiga, who created the LeanIn application with the help of 10 videos of the most difficult ski race in Kitzbühel and data files. With the app, the viewer can follow the skier's inclination in corners, lean with him and in this way more actively monitor the match. The team's award includes the opportunity to participate in "behind the scenes" at the next important ski event and to work with renowned experts from the partners of the hackathon.
Priot knows winter sports well
The HiFlyers team comes from the startup company Priot. The company is already well acquainted with winter sports, as in the past they have developed the HiFlyer! system, which helps coaches of competitors in ski jumping to measure the data of each jump in real time. They also work with the ski association. The company is also a member of Tovarna podjemov and the recipient of the P2 incentive and the convertible SK75, from the Slovene Enterprise Fund.
Hackathon is a great opportunity for networking and successful team work
Team leader Blaž Jakopin said that such events are not only a great opportunity for networking, but also have a positive impact on the successful operation of the team. Blaž advised:
"I would advise such an experience to anyone who has a development company because you meet a lot of people with whom you connect and cooperate in the future. We also signed up for the hackathon so we can network. We see these events as team building, an opportunity to really connect with the team and learn something new."
Good job HiFlyers!
