From Idea to Success: Building a Successful Business Model

Day 15. June 2023 posted Anemari Pediček

Imagine going on a trip without a map or Google Maps. Sounds daunting, doesn't it? Well, the same principle applies to businesses. Without a well-defined business model, companies risk wandering aimlessly, missing out on many opportunities and potentially losing ground in the competitive landscape. That's why at one of ChatVORK's workshops, entrepreneur, innovator and managing partner at CorpoHub, Lojze Bertoncelj, showed us how to use the practical tools 'Business Model Canvas Plus' and 'Value Proposition Canvas Plus' in the right way and why this is the key to success.

In today's fast-paced business world, a clear and well-defined business model is essential for success. It is important to realize that business models are more than just sales models and that good business solutions can be achieved in a planned, deliberate way and built using proven 'recipes.' At the Better Business! (Boljši posel!) workshop, Lojze Bertoncelj shared his.

Achieve your goals with the right business model

Without a clear business model, you can have a great product or service and not get much out of it. A business model represents the whole process of how an organization creates, delivers and 'charges' for value.

So how do you go about creating a successful business model? Lojze suggests using the Business Model Canvas Plus. It's a strategic management and lean innovation template for developing new or capturing existing business models.

First, start with the grey-colored boxes. For each segment, you need to take your time, study it and analyze it. Lojze pointed out that it is necessary for you to know this is a business model and NOT a business plan!

Determine if your product is bringing value to the customer

Do you and your team want to find new opportunities or new ways to improve your offer? Lojze gave us the answer and introduced us to the Value Proposition Canvas, or VPC, created by Alex Osterwalder.

This simple but powerful tool allows you to identify and understand the different value propositions your company offers, helping you to better understand what your customers want and need.

The tool consists of two parts, the first part is the buyer profile and the second is the value proposition.

With VPC, you and your team can spot new opportunities and find ways to optimize your offer. You can also use the tool to easily adjust the positioning of your offer and ease the "pain" for your prospective customers and create value. The tool makes it easy to find out what problems or desires customers have that you are not addressing with your product but could if you make adjustments.

Using visual management for better results

Do you agree with the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words? That's why it's becoming increasingly important to use visual management, as Lojze reminded us.  It is the visual display of information in the workplace, used to inform team members, enforce work standards, and warn and prevent many nuisances.

In practice, there are many different ways of using visual management, such as the use of bulletin boards, and various web applications such as MIRO and others.

Wondering why it's high time you and your team tried visual management? Its use in a company has a positive impact on a number of factors, such as:

- Communication,

- Collaboration,

- Organization,

- Creativity,

- Commitment.
