Are you wondering what gives "intelligence" to smart devices that are increasingly entering our business and private lives? Robotic lawnmowers, smart household appliances, medical devices, smart thermostats, and trackers? These are specialized computer programs, known as embedded systems. One such system is Zephyr, an open-source solution that is rapidly gaining recognition in the tech community. This system will be demonstrated through practical examples at the first Slovenian Zephyr Meetup in Maribor.

Why Embedded Systems?

Embedded systems are specialized computer systems embedded in various devices to perform specific tasks. These systems are often designed to be highly efficient and reliable, as they must operate in real time and without errors. Embedded systems are present in many devices we use daily.

Examples include:

  • Smartphones
  • Automotive systems (such as ABS brakes and engine control)
  • Household appliances (such as washing machines, microwaves, and refrigerators)
  • Medical devices (such as pacemakers and medical monitors)
  • Industrial machines and robots
  • IoT devices (such as smart thermostats, security cameras, and smart locks)

Understanding embedded systems is crucial as it enables the development and improvement of devices we use in everyday life. Knowledge of these systems allows engineers to create more reliable, efficient, and safe devices, enhancing quality of life, industrial efficiency, and technological advancement.

What is Zephyr Meetup?

Zephyr Meetup is a global event organized by members of the Zephyr project, aimed at local developers and enthusiasts in the field of the Internet of Things (IoT) and embedded systems. The main goal of the event is to connect the local community, exchange opinions, knowledge, and experiences, and present the latest trends related to Zephyr RTOS.

What is Zephyr RTOS?

Zephyr RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) is an open-source operating system designed for IoT devices and embedded systems. Under the auspices of the Linux Foundation, Zephyr is designed to support a wide range of hardware. Its main features include small size, modularity, reliability, and excellent networking capabilities. Zephyr is ideal for applications where timeliness, predictability, and low latency are crucial.

IRNAS - Member of Linux Foundation and Zephyr RTOS

Maribor-based IRNAS is a well-established development company engaged in multidisciplinary development of advanced technological solutions. They offer hardware and software development, bridging the gap between conceptual design and final product, and providing comprehensive consulting and development services for IoT solutions for industrial use and demanding environments. They use the latest connectivity technologies such as LoRaWAN, BLE, NB-IoT, and others, providing tailored solutions for their clients' needs. IRNAS is internationally recognized with partnerships such as Nordic Semiconductor Design Partner, a member of the Linux Foundation, and Zephyr RTOS. They have been closely collaborating with the Tovarna podjemov and the Maribor startup community for many years.

Who is the Meetup for?

Developers and researchers of embedded systems, working on software development for embedded systems and IoT devices, and those looking to enhance their knowledge of real-time operating systems.
R&D engineers working on innovative projects and seeking new technologies and tools.
IoT enthusiasts interested in the development and use of IoT devices and wanting to learn more about how Zephyr RTOS can improve their projects.
